TRAVEL AND HONEYMOON GUIDE: BEST SPOT IN DUBLIN, IRELAND

Last month on the blog, I shared my favorite places in Dingle, Ireland, and this month, we are exploring the best places to visit in and around Dublin, Ireland.

If you are traveling from Dingle to Dublin, I highly recommend having a pit stop at Kilcrea Friary in Cork. It will give you a chance to stretch your legs. Open to the public, you can take a look around the Abbey, and I suggest packing a picnic to enjoy in the picturesque walkways. You can also take a glimpse of Kilcrea Castle, located just across the road. You will have to hop a fence and be sure to steer clear of the male cows that may not want you in their field. But the whole process is legal, I promise!

Once you arrive in Dublin, you will quickly realize how easily you can get around the city. Like the rest of Ireland, the city is filled with friendly people, delicious eats, and plenty to drink! While Guinness is always necessary, don’t miss out on Ha’penny Pot Still Gin and Yellow Spot 12-Year-Old Whiskey, too.

Ireland has no shortage of stunning parks and gardens, and two of my favorites are within walking distance - Ivagh Gardens and Trinity College. Don’t forget to pick up snacks from Sheridans Cheesemonger and grab a bottle of wine.

If you are looking for a great happy hour, I can’t recommend Klaw enough. I suggest a glass of white wine, oysters, and smoked salmon to help you unwind from a day of sightseeing.

While St. Patrick’s Cathedral is usually at the top of most travel guides, my favorite hidden gem is just around the corner: Marsh’s Library. It was the country’s first public library and houses a collection of 25,000 books from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, along with manuscripts and books that are dated before 1500. Before leaving ask to see where the bullets hit the books during World War I.

If you are looking for evening plans, The Swan Bar and Delahunt should be high on your list. You have to start with drinks at The Swan Bar which started out as a Medieval Inn and is now an authentic Victorian pub that has been in operation since 1661. You can then stroll down the road to Delahunt for delicious food at this contemporary Irish restaurant that features an excellent cocktail and wine list.

If you love travel and food, I am sure you have an admiration for Anthony Bourdain. We found out he had passed away on our trip to Ireland. I couldn’t think of a better way to cap off our trip than having a pint of Guinness at John Kavanagh Gravediggers Pub, which Bourdain was once quoted saying, “Heaven looks like this” and I happen to agree.

If you aren’t ready to leave the Gravediggers area, you can visit The Glasnevin Cemetery and the National Botanic Gardens.
